The death penalty has been a very controversial topic throughout the years. However, I believe that the death penalty should be forced for murderers and crimes that are terrible and destroy many lives. Taking lives of these individuals takes them out of the world, "an eye for an eye they say and keeps them from ever doing anything like they did ever again". People against the death penalty say "lifetime jail sentences are more severe and less expensive punishment then death", however keeping inmates in jail cost alot of money. That is my opinion on the death penalty.
See i agree strongly with your post because if there is no death penalty then all the prisons will just get filled up. I think if someone has taken another persons life then they should have the death penalty. I think very strongly that the death penalty should remain also.
I agree , keeping a crimnial alive leaves a oppertunity for them to exscape and repete their crimes . But I would only put them on death row if there was strong evidence against them to protect people who were falsly accused
What about those that have been found guilty initially, but then after more investigation they are found innocent? If we kill them you can't bring them back to life.
i agree ,if you kill someone why should you be allowed to live,and usually if someone kills someone they are evolved in other crimes as well ,nobody wakes up and decides they're going to kill someone that day
I think that we should use the death penalty more than we do. we spend way to mutch money on keeping people in jail. if someone is proven guilty no questions asked they should get put to death within a year of conviction
I think the death penalty should only be used in extreme cases of murder. And all cases should be completely investigated more than once to make sure that the person up for the death penalty is guilty. Also keeping these people in jail for the rest of their lives is very expensive.
I agree on some conditions like if someone kills someone else they indeed should be punished but if we kill somone he is guilty for killing someone that doesnt make us any better since we are doing the exact same crime in a since. If someone murders another or it is an extreme crime then it should be used.
I do not agree with the death penalty especially if the person only killed one person. That person is not a bad threat to society. Killing them would not give them any chance to change for the better. Keeping them in jail would be a much better option. I agree that jails now cost way too much money and the people in jail get way too much comfort. Jail should not have TV, phones, and all of the other things that are in jails.

The deathy penalty should be saved for extremley rare cases. It isn't right to kill someone for a crime unless they are a severe threat to society. Criminals should have punishments in line with the degree of their crime. Killing one person is not enough of a crime to get the death penalty.
The reason I support Mitt Romney so much is his stance on abortion . It is wroung to take a innocent childs life for selfish reasons . There are plenty of people who are willing to adopt them over two million couples are still waiting to adopt a child . It contradicts the declaration of independence when it states "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Also the orginal Hippocratic Oath that all docters take when swearing to practice medicine ethically says ,"I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion." Yes but sending a child to a orphanage cost allot of money and brings no profit. If everyone just brought their child to an orphanage instead of having an abortion, the government couldn't afford it. Also, the medical cost of giving birth is extremely high.
I agree with this post because I agree with what Ryann had said. Some woman are not able to concieve children and would be more than willing to adopt the child. People need to think about all of the possibilities before they act. Abortions are not the only option, and abortions shouldn't even be an option. I think that if you didn't want a child, you shouldn't have showed your "affections" in the first place.
My controversial topic is weather or not performance enhancing drugs should be legalized or not. I think that they should defiantly stay banned from professional sports. They are very dangerous for an athlete's heath. Is it worth the extra tenth of a seconds off your time to risk your life? If they make it okay for everybody to take them, all the athletes will improve so nobody is getting ahead of their competition. The next thing we know they will be taking more to try and out do their opponents. It will take their lives more quickly than you can imagine. Drug test are important. The technology is always improving. The I.O.C. keeps Olympic athletes urine and blood samples 8 years after they compete in case the can detect any previously unknown drugs. Lastly professional athletes are role models to youth everywhere. Would you want your son or daughter to think using steroids are okay? We are watching a slow motion catastrophe and we need to stop it before it takes another life.
I agree with you about enhancing drugs should be banned. However, some people enjoy watching baseball players or other sport players really excel. A lot of people enjoyed watching Barry Bonds hit 700 homers and he was using performance enhancing drugs. So what i say is we could have a separate league where performance enhancing drugs are allowed to put on a better show.
I think a separate league where performance enhancing drugs are allowed would be very interesting; so I agree with Marc. And if people decide to take these drugs they are fully aware that they are putting themselves in danger of medical problems.
I agree Jessie. If they wont to to better than what they are drugs are kind of a quick fix. They should train harder not cheat by using performane enhansing drugs. It wouldnt be fair to have a drug free team playing a team that has three or four big guys that use steriods or ect. That would be a cool idea though Marc for seperate leagues.
I think abortion should be illegal. Reason being that the small child would be suffering AND that there might be a family or even a individual who would be willing to adopt that child or children. On the other note, no one should express their "affection" for one another if your planning on having no children any time soon. But if so, be wise and think over the possibilities.
I agree with you on thinking abortions should be illegal. It is very wrong and most people that get them live the rest of their life in regret. People don't see how bad it is for your body. Having a baby is bad for your body too but woman were built for having kids, destroying an unborn child is just inhumane.

Rape and incest don't give the mother the right bto kill her child. Why should the baby have to die for something that wasn't their fault? It isn't the baby's fault their mother was raped. There are still many people looking to adopt and the mother should take care of it if she really can anyway.
Abortions should be illegal because it's wrong to kill an unborn child. Honestly, what is the difference between killing an unborn child and killing a child that has already been born? Sometimes it isn't 100% your choice. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant that isn't her fault; she wasn't willing to have sex. I would not want to have the child of a man that raped me.

I agree with your idea on video games. How it helps kids and teenagers make new friends and is a stress release. However video games can also be like drugs, where kids get addicted to them and never want to do anything but play them.
Video games do not make teens more violent. I agree with you guys saying it does the exact opposite. When you feel stressed and want to do something to relaxe video games are a good distraction. You could relieve anger about the situation by well blowing something up or shooting something or use video games to forget the prolem completely.
I picked the hot topic of milk. Is drinking milk healthy for humans? I believe that drinking milk is healthy for humans. It is an excellent source of calcium, which strengthens the bones. Some of its other benefits include weight loss and cancer prevention. Sure you can get these benefits from other sources but drinking milk is the most practicle way because it combines all of them into one product. In conclusion, I feel that milk is a very healthy choice for humans and see no reason not to drink it.
I agree to the statement that drinking milk has beneficial factors to humans. Atheletes are told drinking chocolate milk after a race or competition is good for their bodies so they can recover. Also, In todays world milk is pasterized to kill bacteria so I don't think there is a con to milk as long as you do not intake more than nutritional recommendations.
I half agree, yet half disagree. It is true that milk does help to provide our bodies with nutrients. It's also said that it helps build strong bones. But recent studies have shown that there are certain particles inside milk that our bodies can't process correctly and because of this, the particles actually deal damage to our bodies. Now, its not a lot of damage, like desentigating your bones or anything. But eventually the particles can cause calcium deficiency which can lead to cancer.
I most definately agree with you. I feel this way because humans have been drinking milk since before there was any record of anything. It's what we are provided from the time we are born along with every mammal on the earth. If there is any reason to not drink milk then it is because of the proceses that it is put through to make it last longer and not as fattening.
I believe that children should be forced to have vaccines. Why is under age drinking illegal? Because it prevents children from becoming alcoholics. Often, children don't fully understand the consequences until it is too late. The same reasoning should be applied with vaccines because having a lethal disease is just as dangerous as many other things that were made illegal. Plus if we wipe out the disease now, people wouldn't have to get vaccines in the future.
Children should not be forced to get vaccines. This is taking away their freedoms. Their parents are fully capable of deciding what they need and don't need. The government should not be making choices like that. That is what leads to Monarchies and Communism, because soon (if you let the government have that power) they could be giving you death pills. Forcing children to get vaccines is unconstitutional.
The issue of concealed carry is a verry hot topic. IT says in the constitution that a citizen has the right to bare arms and I think that we should be allowed to do so. In many large city areas crime rates were proved to have drooped as the number of (ccw) permits increased. Women who have a concealed carry are mutch less likley to be abducted or sexualy asaulted than those who dont. Most of the time just showing your atacker the gun is so fear enducing that they will back off and leve you alone because just the intimidation factor can save your or somebody elses life.
My hot topic is vegetarianism. Should all people become vegetarians? vegetarians say that it would be very wise for everyone to convert to being a vegetarian. Eating meat can harm your overall health such as high blood pressure, kidney disease, heart disease, and even some types of cancer. Eating meat also wastes a lot of resource. Vegetarians also say that eating meats can cause pollution. There are certainly both pros and cons of becoming a vegetarian.A pro could be that killing animals are cruel and a con could be that humans have been eating meat as far back as we can remember. I think that we should not all become vegetarians since we need a big variety a food for our proteins and other vitamins and I don't think eating broccoli every day is gonna do the trick. I do believe everyone should eat vegetables and that they are good for you but again meat adds variety to our food choices.
Abortions should not be legal in the United States or in any other country because it is murder. Why should women get a right to decide whether they think that their baby should live or not when everyday citizens don't get the right to just pull out a gun and shoot someone? It is the exact same thing just the mother is killing someone who id unable to defend themselves. How is this right? All that abortions has done is made more teenagers get pregnant. Marriage is not respected much anymore. Abortions promote teenagers to get pregnant before they are married because they don't have to keep the child; they can just kill the child. I have to respectfully disagree to both of your statements. I am pro choice because although murder is a crime, so is rape. Some women may be forced into sex to save their own life. Other cases in which abortion could be considered are in drug addicts and alcholics who either didn't know they were pregnant or just didn't care. The children of these individuals would have major health issues and could end up handicapped or live short lives feeling terrible about themselves because their mothers did not or could not care for them properly in or out of the womb. Also, the women who are raped didn't have a choice to get pregnant shouldn't we at least give them the opportunity to decide for themselves if they want to give birth to a child they didn't plan for? with a man they don't love? After all this is a democracy. Also, while Thou shall not kill may be a commandment of God, there is a separation of church and state in the United States and not everyone believes in God or in religion at all. Also, prositution may be illegal but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen in the U.S. So, what about the child of them? I think as individuals we have to put ourselves in the mothers and childrens shoes. While your points are all valid and true there are other factors to consider in this topic. How would you feel if you were the mother of a child conceived in rape?
My pro con topic is the legal drinking age. The minimum legal drinking age (MLDA)is 21 in the United States but some people think it should be lowered to 18.I believe it should be lowered to 18 because that is when you are seen as an adult. Even though the MLDA is 21 that doesn't stop people from drinking; once you're 18 and go off to college most people drink. Lowering the MLDA to 18 would cause less illegal activity and since drinking wouldn't be illegal it would be less of a thrill to drink at a younger age. A lot of people think that lowering the MLDA would increase drunk driving but a lot of countries with a MLDA of 18 have similar or better drunk driving statistics than the US. Lowering the MLDA would also increase the revenue of business's helping the economy. Do you think the MLDA should be lowered to 18 or stay at 21?
I believe same sex marriages should be legalized. All heterosexuals want is to be recognized as a married couple and have the same benifts and federal protection as "normal" couples. If a heterosexual couple isnt allowed to become married to the one they love no matter what gender then all states should recognize civil unions. With civil unions everyone wins. Gays can recieve the same rights as others but they can keep "old fashioned people" happy because it wouldnt be called a marriage. Febuary 14, 2012 a study was done and 10 countries allowed same sex marriages, but only 6 American states allow it. I strongly believe this number should be higher for America.
Allowing gay marriages in America would destroy America. What is even the point of the marriage? They can not have children together and if they adopted children then their children will have a hard life. The point of marriage is to have children out of love. Gay people are only thinking about themselves. America should support good family life and not selfishness. Gay people say that they want rights and to be accepted. For one, they already have the same rights as everyone else if they would just act like normal people. Nobody was "born to be gay", everyone was born to live out their life in a good family life(women and man). For two, we don't have to accept something we don't agree with. We can treat them with respect but we don't have to accept them. Marriage is also a religious sacrament and most religions do not accept gay marriage. Marriage benefits include tax payers paying for things like social security. Those who do not believe in gay marriage should not have to support those couples.
I think that abortion should be stopped, because if a woman does not want her child there's always the option to give the baby up for adoption instead of killing it. "Unborn babies are innocent human beings from the moment of conception. They have a fundamental right to life, which must be protected." A baby shouldn't be killed just because the mother doesn't want it. Even an adopted life is much better than no life.

I think the legal drinking age should stay the same because 1 if the age was lowered then there would be more drunk driving accidents, number 2 our generation would be full of alchoholics and there would be more kids in the future that do great things rather than get killed in a car accident from drunk driving. The use of standardized tests is improving education in america. Without these tests there would be no way of knowing a single students progress over others for sure. There also wouldn't be a set mark for teachers to get their students to understand a certain criteria, so one teacher could teach a different difficulty than another that is supposedly teaching at the same difficulty and with that the difficulty of the classes students take would fall to luck of which teacher you get. Also if standardized testing was not mandatory then their would be no way of telling whether the students in a class are being taught very well, not at all or too much, with this there would be no way to judge the teachers on whether they are really teaching well or not. Without standardized testing there would also be no way for colleges to judge positively on whether the student of interest really knows their stuff or just got lucky and had easy classes. Even if standardized testing does not improve the overall knowledge of Americans it is still necessary to judge if the criteria for the class is met.
I understand where you are coming from but I do, however, have to disagree. Some students do not preform well under pressure. Some students would do better than others just because they don't test well. The teachers would be blamed for their students' failure.
On the issue of Social Networking I choose to be neutral. I feel that the Pros and Cons are pretty equal and that we can benifit from social networking if the sites are not overused or abused. Pros are that we can connect to others around the world and learn valuable computer skills. Some cons are that people may develope a self absorbed or narcistic personality. People on social networking have no way of verifying who they are so there can be many people who aren't who they say they are online, like predators. Social networking sites have been proven through studies that they can improve health by retaining information, stroke recovery, and overall happiness and well-being of people who use them. They can connect people who have similar interests as well. This is why I choose to remain neutral on the topic.
I believe that ObamaCare will ruin our country if it is not repealed. This new form of health insurance will "increase spending, increase taxes, and destroy jobs in America". "The law also levies roughly $500 billion in new taxes that will enter the supply chain for medical services, raising the cost of medical services... these medical costs will translate to higher insurance premiums, further increasing the cost of operating a business in the United States...". ObamaCare takes away our freedoms to make our own decisions. "The mandate requiring every American to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty is a profound overreach of government power". In this mandate the government will use our tax money to support abortions. This is against many American's will. The government should not use our money to do something that is morally wrong to many of us. ObamaCare will not help the patients or the physicians. It makes the patients rely on the government for their needs which is not good for America. The physicians will end up getting less income do to the many people having to pay less for appointments. For these reasons I believe that ObamaCare is not good at all for our country.
Though I don't like Obama care, I still think that Obama would make a better decisions than Mit Romney. Mit Romney is far to radical for me, plus I don't fully agree on his views on life. How could anyone think abortion is wrong but an increased military is right? Making abortions illegal will save lifes, but won't expanding our military just take away lifes. Really I don't agree with either of them but I would rather have the devil I know then the devil I don't.
I chose the death penalty because it's a topic that people argue about a lot. I don't think that this should be an option. It would be good in extreme cases, but I think it would be better for the person who did the crimes to suffer in prison rather than just die. If he/she gets sent to prison then they'd have to spend their lives thinking about what they did and how they got in there. If they were killed then they would basically be let off the hook and not have to face the consequences of what they did. They should have to be put in prison for their entire life, not just be killed.
I agree with this because the criminal should have to live with what they did not just be killed and that's it. They need to suffer in prison like the family of the lost one is suffering from losing them.
I chose the death penalty because I feel strongly about this issue. Personally to me, it should be allowed, because once a criminal always a criminal. I know this from research, and even personal experience. The "criminal" aspect is something in the brain, it makes them tick, think that way. It's not something that can be fixed. Very few times a man walks out of prison changed. It isn't fair that a man get to live his life after he's committed a crime large and bad enough to harm many others and even the larger society around him. Most people don't think it's fair, but how isn't it? A man, or woman, has committed a crime to harm others in any way shape or form, why should they get to live their life? It isn't fair, a life for a bad deed. If you ask me, no man that has harmed another person in any way, shape, or form should be allowed to continue living, especially if he's a murderer.
I believe that golf is a sport. I am an athletic kind of person and i find most sports easier than golf. Golf takes a lot of a hand eye coordination and to know how hard to swing it takes some time to comprehend. There are also a lot of other factors in golf also like the wind, trees, and even the water. Golf is a very hard sport to be good at. If you miss the ball even by a minuscule fragment then it wont go the way you want it to. If i were to take athletes from our school and make them golf. I can guarantee you that they will not be very good at it.
I do not think that abortion is a good thing or should even be allowed to happen. There are many ways of preventing pregnancies.If you do not want to have a child because you are too young, or you just don't think you could be a good parent, you could always set up adoption with some parents that cant have children and it would save the life of your child. I think abortion is the same thing as murdering someone. The only difference is they didn't even get a chance to see the world before they are killed. I understand that some people cannot afford the expense of having a child, or they might not be old enough to really have the time to take care of them. That is where you find foster parents that can take care of your child without killing them. I just think people should think about abortions and look into them before they but their own child through all that pain.
i agree with abortion because if you were to get pregnant from being raped then it would not be your fault if you didnt use protection and you should be allowed to get an abortion if you do not want children or are unable to take care of them. It is not considered as murder because it is not a living baby yet it is an embryo in the mothers whomb.
I read about "Lowering the drinking age" and most young people would say yes, just so they can drink, I think the age should stay that way. I think this because if the age was lowered I think it would cause more problems and trouble and that 21 is an acceptional age because most people that age are almost done with college or already graduated and have a job or home and are grown up. If the age is lowered then it would probably interfer with peoples studies and life. I think the age will never be lowered, or at least not for a long time.
I think Drug use (such as steroids) in sports is very wrong. If you really like the sport you are playing you will be willing to out in the hard work to succeed. Steroids are an excuse for people to be lazy and get stronger without the hard work. Also steroids are a great health risk too. It can increase your risk of having a heart attack by the time your 30.
I believe that the death penalty should only be used for extreme crimes such as murder. For less severe crimes, prison should be the sentence. I feel that spending time in prison could be a more effective punishment, because it makes you realize what you did wrong, and maybe even allow you to repair it. If the death penalty is your sentence then you may realize what you did, but you will never be able to repair it. Many people say that the death penalty is not an effective form of punishment, but how would we know? We don't know because we cannot conduct a study about it because all of those who receive the death penalty, die.
Prostitution in my eyes is a not bad but it's also not good. There is a neutral understanding in my opinion. Some people have to find work in the weirdest ways and some of those people turn to prostitution. In some places this profession is illegal but in other places it's to go for. It all depends on the governors view on the topic. Just because some people think it's immoral doesn't mean that it has to be legal but it's also unhealthy in the risk of getting diseases and the risks of ending good marriages. That is my opinion on prostitution.
I somewhat agree with your opinion? I disagree with prostitution because if it wasn't for prostitution, we wouldn't have as many STD's as we do today. I don't think we'd have any if it wasn't for prostitution, it makes people think it's okay. And it's not. It kills our economy because all people want to spend money on is beer and sex, instead of paying taxes and doing something productive for their country.
i believe that in the world of college football, we should use the playoff system,The BCS, Bowl Championship series is where the two top ranked college football teams play against each other, while eight other top ranked teams play each other in four bowl games. It is not that I hate the BCS, it's just that I think that the playoff system seems like it would have more of a competitive theme, " your playing against the top ten teams in the NCAA". To me it also gives it for more chance of an upset, I mean how many times have the underdogs won in the nfl playoffs. Plus the NCAA ranking does not make complete sense to me but that is just me. All i am saying is that it would more enjoyable to watch playoffs then bowl games, but thats just me, and a few hundred thousand people.
I picked the controversial topic of vegetarianism. For most people, it is a way to help the environment and save the animals around it. However, being a vegetarian is risking your own diet unless you can make up for all the nutrients that you've lost. By not eating meat, it has benefits, such as having an 40% less chance of getting cancer. So if you properly substitute meat out for any of the other food groups that may provide what you're missing, it shouldn't be considered such a bad thing. Deciding to not eat meat is just as simple as not deciding not to do drugs (or anything really). Although we have to put more effort into our diet, saving animals makes it worth it.
I agree with your paragraph here. I too think that vegetarianism is a simple choice but a big commitment. There isn't anything wrong with not eating meat and in fact there are benefits. Meat gets more and more harmful for our bodies, with all the steroids and whatnot. I think that one day more people will see and understand that not eating meat is the better choice for their bodies.
Gay marriages should be legal. To me, there isn't anything wrong with it whatsoever. Nowhere in the constitution does it say people don't have the right to be happy, to be in love. Opinions of some people shouldn't defy the lives of others... There is racism amongst the U.S. and it's not illegal to be of a different race. There is arachnidphobia everywhere and it's not illegal to be a spider. There is homophobia amongst the U.S. and it shouldn't be illegal to spend the rest of your life with your one love just because you're gay. I know my spider example was silly. But in all honesty, illegalizing gay marriage is even more silly.
I agree. If our country is considered 'free' and we were told that we had rights as citizens, the whole situation just contradicts itself. America has just let itself go and wants to get rid of something as simple as this. As long as they are happy, nobody should say anything against it and they should actually try to do something worthy for the country instead of throwing their selfish opinion out.
My controversial topic is whether or not 'under God' should be in the Pledge of Allegiance. I think 'under God' shouldn't be in the Pledge of Allegiance because it does not follow the founding fathers' idea of seperation of church and state, an idea on which the U.S was built. The United States is a country of equality, but having one religion's statements in the Pledge of Allegiance doesn't support equality and acception of other religions. If I were, for example, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, ect., I wouldn't be very happy if I knew my children were reciting another religion's statement. Having 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance violates the 1st ammendment and does not promote equality and unity as a country.
I couldn't agree more with your statement. If it is an equal country, they wouldn't force their religion on other citizens who choose to believe in another religion or nothing at all. In my opinion, it would be much better if they just decided to remove it in order to not offend anyone. Nobody should have to say something that they don't believe.
I think the minimum drinking age should stay at 21 and not be lowered to 18 years of age. Your brain is not done developing at 18 and drinking can cause damage to it. Also "studies have shown there are less motor vehicle accidents with a minimum legal drinking age of 21". Less accidents means less deaths caused by motorized vehicles. Less drinking under the age of 18 means lass damage to peoples brain development due to drinking.
My controversial topic is vegitarianism. i do not agree this because most people only become vegitarians to save animals but god put them on earth for us to eat. People think since they dont eat meat they are saving animals but factories are still killing the same amount of animals to sell in stores for the people that do eat meat. Being a vegitarian is unhealthy, you dont get the right amount of nutrients and it increases the risk of diabetes and anemia.
I think abortion should be illegal because, there are many ways to prevent getting pregnant, abortion is just like murder. If you don't want children and don't want to take the risk of getting pregnant, don't have sex. Now, in the event of rape, obviously it was not your fault but its not the child's either, don't kill it. Have the baby, then give it up for adoption if your not ready to keep it. I don't think there is ever any reason for anyone to have an abortion. Everyone is made for a purpose, even that baby.
The death penalty has been a very controversial topic throughout the years. However, I believe that the death penalty should be forced for murderers and crimes that are terrible and destroy many lives. Taking lives of these individuals takes them out of the world, "an eye for an eye they say and keeps them from ever doing anything like they did ever again". People against the death penalty say "lifetime jail sentences are more severe and less expensive punishment then death", however keeping inmates in jail cost alot of money. That is my opinion on the death penalty.

There are plenty of people who are willing to adopt them over two million couples are still waiting to adopt a child . DeleteMy controversial topic is weather or not performance enhancing drugs should be legalized or not. I think that they should defiantly stay banned from professional sports. They are very dangerous for an athlete's heath. Is it worth the extra tenth of a seconds off your time to risk your life? If they make it okay for everybody to take them, all the athletes will improve so nobody is getting ahead of their competition. The next thing we know they will be taking more to try and out do their opponents. It will take their lives more quickly than you can imagine. Drug test are important. The technology is always improving. The I.O.C. keeps Olympic athletes urine and blood samples 8 years after they compete in case the can detect any previously unknown drugs. Lastly professional athletes are role models to youth everywhere. Would you want your son or daughter to think using steroids are okay? We are watching a slow motion catastrophe and we need to stop it before it takes another life.

DeleteI agree with you about enhancing drugs should be banned. However, some people enjoy watching baseball players or other sport players really excel. A lot of people enjoyed watching Barry Bonds hit 700 homers and he was using performance enhancing drugs. So what i say is we could have a separate league where performance enhancing drugs are allowed to put on a better show.

DeleteI picked the hot topic of milk. Is drinking milk healthy for humans? I believe that drinking milk is healthy for humans. It is an excellent source of calcium, which strengthens the bones. Some of its other benefits include weight loss and cancer prevention. Sure you can get these benefits from other sources but drinking milk is the most practicle way because it combines all of them into one product. In conclusion, I feel that milk is a very healthy choice for humans and see no reason not to drink it.

Atheletes are told drinking chocolate milk after a race or competition is good for their bodies so they can recover. Also, In todays world milk is pasterized to kill bacteria so I don't think there is a con to milk as long as you do not intake more than nutritional recommendations.
DeleteI half agree, yet half disagree. It is true that milk does help to provide our bodies with nutrients. It's also said that it helps build strong bones. But recent studies have shown that there are certain particles inside milk that our bodies can't process correctly and because of this, the particles actually deal damage to our bodies. Now, its not a lot of damage, like desentigating your bones or anything. But eventually the particles can cause calcium deficiency which can lead to cancer.

DeleteThe issue of concealed carry is a verry hot topic. IT says in the constitution that a citizen has the right to bare arms and I think that we should be allowed to do so. In many large city areas crime rates were proved to have drooped as the number of (ccw) permits increased. Eating meat can harm your overall health such as high blood pressure, kidney disease, heart disease, and even some types of cancer. Eating meat also wastes a lot of resource. Vegetarians also say that eating meats can cause pollution. There are certainly both pros and cons of becoming a vegetarian.A pro could be that killing animals are cruel and a con could be that humans have been eating meat as far back as we can remember. I think that we should not all become vegetarians since we need a big variety a food for our proteins and other vitamins and I don't think eating broccoli every day is gonna do the trick. I do believe everyone should eat vegetables and that they are good for you but again meat adds variety to our food choices.

DeleteI have to respectfully disagree to both of your statements. I am pro choice because although murder is a crime, so is rape. Some women may be forced into sex to save their own life. Other cases in which abortion could be considered are in drug addicts and alcholics who either didn't know they were pregnant or just didn't care. The children of these individuals would have major health issues and could end up handicapped or live short lives feeling terrible about themselves because their mothers did not or could not care for them properly in or out of the womb. Also, the women who are raped didn't have a choice to get pregnant shouldn't we at least give them the opportunity to decide for themselves if they want to give birth to a child they didn't plan for? with a man they don't love? After all this is a democracy. Also, while Thou shall not kill may be a commandment of God, there is a separation of church and state in the United States and not everyone believes in God or in religion at all. Also, prositution may be illegal but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen in the U.S. So, what about the child of them? I think as individuals we have to put ourselves in the mothers and childrens shoes. While your points are all valid and true there are other factors to consider in this topic. How would you feel if you were the mother of a child conceived in rape?

The minimum legal drinking age (MLDA)is 21 in the United States but some people think it should be lowered to 18.I believe it should be lowered to 18 because that is when you are seen as an adult. Even though the MLDA is 21 that doesn't stop people from drinking; once you're 18 and go off to college most people drink. Lowering the MLDA to 18 would cause less illegal activity and since drinking wouldn't be illegal it would be less of a thrill to drink at a younger age. A lot of people think that lowering the MLDA would increase drunk driving but a lot of countries with a MLDA of 18 have similar or better drunk driving statistics than the US. Lowering the MLDA would also increase the revenue of business's helping the economy. Do you think the MLDA should be lowered to 18 or stay at 21?

DeleteI believe same sex marriages should be legalized. All heterosexuals want is to be recognized as a married couple and have the same benifts and federal protection as "normal" couples. If a heterosexual couple isnt allowed to become married to the one they love no matter what gender then all states should recognize civil unions. With civil unions everyone wins. Gays can recieve the same rights as others but they can keep "old fashioned people" happy because it wouldnt be called a marriage. Febuary 14, 2012 a study was done and 10 countries allowed same sex marriages, but only 6 American states allow it. I strongly believe this number should be higher for America.

They can not have children together and if they adopted children then their children will have a hard life. The point of marriage is to have children out of love. Gay people are only thinking about themselves. America should support good family life and not selfishness. Gay people say that they want rights and to be accepted. For one, they already have the same rights as everyone else if they would just act like normal people. Nobody was "born to be gay", everyone was born to live out their life in a good family life(women and man). For two, we don't have to accept something we don't agree with. We can treat them with respect but we don't have to accept them. Marriage is also a religious sacrament and most religions do not accept gay marriage. Marriage benefits include tax payers paying for things like social security. Those who do not believe in gay marriage should not have to support those couples.

ReplyDeleteThe use of standardized tests is improving education in america. Without these tests there would be no way of knowing a single students progress over others for sure. There also wouldn't be a set mark for teachers to get their students to understand a certain criteria, so one teacher could teach a different difficulty than another that is supposedly teaching at the same difficulty and with that the difficulty of the classes students take would fall to luck of which teacher you get. Also if standardized testing was not mandatory then their would be no way of telling whether the students in a class are being taught very well, not at all or too much, with this there would be no way to judge the teachers on whether they are really teaching well or not. Without standardized testing there would also be no way for colleges to judge positively on whether the student of interest really knows their stuff or just got lucky and had easy classes. Even if standardized testing does not improve the overall knowledge of Americans it is still necessary to judge if the criteria for the class is met.

DeleteOn the issue of Social Networking I choose to be neutral. I feel that the Pros and Cons are pretty equal and that we can benifit from social networking if the sites are not overused or abused. Pros are that we can connect to others around the world and learn valuable computer skills. Some cons are that people may develope a self absorbed or narcistic personality. People on social networking have no way of verifying who they are so there can be many people who aren't who they say they are online, like predators. Social networking sites have been proven through studies that they can improve health by retaining information, stroke recovery, and overall happiness and well-being of people who use them. They can connect people who have similar interests as well. This is why I choose to remain neutral on the topic.
ReplyDeleteI believe that ObamaCare will ruin our country if it is not repealed. This new form of health insurance will "increase spending, increase taxes, and destroy jobs in America". "The law also levies roughly $500 billion in new taxes that will enter the supply chain for medical services, raising the cost of medical services... these medical costs will translate to higher insurance premiums, further increasing the cost of operating a business in the United States...". ObamaCare takes away our freedoms to make our own decisions. "The mandate requiring every American to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty is a profound overreach of government power". In this mandate the government will use our tax money to support abortions. This is against many American's will. The government should not use our money to do something that is morally wrong to many of us. ObamaCare will not help the patients or the physicians. It makes the patients rely on the government for their needs which is not good for America. The physicians will end up getting less income do to the many people having to pay less for appointments. For these reasons I believe that ObamaCare is not good at all for our country.

ReplyDeleteI chose the death penalty because it's a topic that people argue about a lot. I don't think that this should be an option. It would be good in extreme cases, but I think it would be better for the person who did the crimes to suffer in prison rather than just die. If he/she gets sent to prison then they'd have to spend their lives thinking about what they did and how they got in there. If they were killed then they would basically be let off the hook and not have to face the consequences of what they did. They should have to be put in prison for their entire life, not just be killed.

I know this from research, and even personal experience. The "criminal" aspect is something in the brain, it makes them tick, think that way. It's not something that can be fixed. Very few times a man walks out of prison changed. It isn't fair that a man get to live his life after he's committed a crime large and bad enough to harm many others and even the larger society around him. Most people don't think it's fair, but how isn't it? A man, or woman, has committed a crime to harm others in any way shape or form, why should they get to live their life? It isn't fair, a life for a bad deed. If you ask me, no man that has harmed another person in any way, shape, or form should be allowed to continue living, especially if he's a murderer.
ReplyDeleteI believe that golf is a sport. I am an athletic kind of person and i find most sports easier than golf. Golf takes a lot of a hand eye coordination and to know how hard to swing it takes some time to comprehend. There are also a lot of other factors in golf also like the wind, trees, and even the water. Golf is a very hard sport to be good at. If you miss the ball even by a minuscule fragment then it wont go the way you want it to. If i were to take athletes from our school and make them golf. I can guarantee you that they will not be very good at it.

There are many ways of preventing pregnancies.If you do not want to have a child because you are too young, or you just don't think you could be a good parent, you could always set up adoption with some parents that cant have children and it would save the life of your child. I think abortion is the same thing as murdering someone. The only difference is they didn't even get a chance to see the world before they are killed. I understand that some people cannot afford the expense of having a child, or they might not be old enough to really have the time to take care of them. That is where you find foster parents that can take care of your child without killing them. I just think people should think about abortions and look into them before they but their own child through all that pain.

DeleteI read about "Lowering the drinking age" and most young people would say yes, just so they can drink, I think the age should stay that way. I think this because if the age was lowered I think it would cause more problems and trouble and that 21 is an acceptional age because most people that age are almost done with college or already graduated and have a job or home and are grown up. If the age is lowered then it would probably interfer with peoples studies and life. I think the age will never be lowered, or at least not for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI think Drug use (such as steroids) in sports is very wrong. If you really like the sport you are playing you will be willing to out in the hard work to succeed. Steroids are an excuse for people to be lazy and get stronger without the hard work. Also steroids are a great health risk too. It can increase your risk of having a heart attack by the time your 30.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the death penalty should only be used for extreme crimes such as murder. For less severe crimes, prison should be the sentence. I feel that spending time in prison could be a more effective punishment, because it makes you realize what you did wrong, and maybe even allow you to repair it. If the death penalty is your sentence then you may realize what you did, but you will never be able to repair it. Many people say that the death penalty is not an effective form of punishment, but how would we know? We don't know because we cannot conduct a study about it because all of those who receive the death penalty, die.
ReplyDeleteProstitution in my eyes is a not bad but it's also not good. There is a neutral understanding in my opinion. Some people have to find work in the weirdest ways and some of those people turn to prostitution. In some places this profession is illegal but in other places it's to go for. It all depends on the governors view on the topic. Just because some people think it's immoral doesn't mean that it has to be legal but it's also unhealthy in the risk of getting diseases and the risks of ending good marriages. That is my opinion on prostitution.

I don't think we'd have any if it wasn't for prostitution, it makes people think it's okay. And it's not. It kills our economy because all people want to spend money on is beer and sex, instead of paying taxes and doing something productive for their country.
Deletei believe that in the world of college football, we should use the playoff system,The BCS, Bowl Championship series is where the two top ranked college football teams play against each other, while eight other top ranked teams play each other in four bowl games. It is not that I hate the BCS, it's just that I think that the playoff system seems like it would have more of a competitive theme, " your playing against the top ten teams in the NCAA". To me it also gives it for more chance of an upset, I mean how many times have the underdogs won in the nfl playoffs. Plus the NCAA ranking does not make complete sense to me but that is just me. By not eating meat, it has benefits, such as having an 40% less chance of getting cancer. So if you properly substitute meat out for any of the other food groups that may provide what you're missing, it shouldn't be considered such a bad thing. Deciding to not eat meat is just as simple as not deciding not to do drugs (or anything really). Although we have to put more effort into our diet, saving animals makes it worth it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your paragraph here. I too think that vegetarianism is a simple choice but a big commitment. There isn't anything wrong with not eating meat and in fact there are benefits. Meat gets more and more harmful for our bodies, with all the steroids and whatnot. I think that one day more people will see and understand that not eating meat is the better choice for their bodies.
DeleteGay marriages should be legal. To me, there isn't anything wrong with it whatsoever. Nowhere in the constitution does it say people don't have the right to be happy, to be in love. Opinions of some people shouldn't defy the lives of others... There is racism amongst the U.S. and it's not illegal to be of a different race. There is arachnidphobia everywhere and it's not illegal to be a spider. There is homophobia amongst the U.S. and it shouldn't be illegal to spend the rest of your life with your one love just because you're gay. I know my spider example was silly. But in all honesty, illegalizing gay marriage is even more silly.
ReplyDeleteI agree. If our country is considered 'free' and we were told that we had rights as citizens, the whole situation just contradicts itself. America has just let itself go and wants to get rid of something as simple as this. As long as they are happy, nobody should say anything against it and they should actually try to do something worthy for the country instead of throwing their selfish opinion out.
DeleteMy controversial topic is whether or not 'under God' should be in the Pledge of Allegiance. I think 'under God' shouldn't be in the Pledge of Allegiance because it does not follow the founding fathers' idea of seperation of church and state, an idea on which the U.S was built. The United States is a country of equality, but having one religion's statements in the Pledge of Allegiance doesn't support equality and acception of other religions. If I were, for example, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, ect., I wouldn't be very happy if I knew my children were reciting another religion's statement. Having 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance violates the 1st ammendment and does not promote equality and unity as a country.

DeleteIn my opinion, it would be much better if they just decided to remove it in order to not offend anyone. Nobody should have to say something that they don't believe.
I think the minimum drinking age should stay at 21 and not be lowered to 18 years of age. Your brain is not done developing at 18 and drinking can cause damage to it. Also "studies have shown there are less motor vehicle accidents with a minimum legal drinking age of 21". Less accidents means less deaths caused by motorized vehicles. Less drinking under the age of 18 means lass damage to peoples brain development due to drinking.
ReplyDeleteMy controversial topic is vegitarianism. i do not agree this because most people only become vegitarians to save animals but god put them on earth for us to eat. People think since they dont eat meat they are saving animals but factories are still killing the same amount of animals to sell in stores for the people that do eat meat. Being a vegitarian is unhealthy, you dont get the right amount of nutrients and it increases the risk of diabetes and anemia.
ReplyDeleteI think abortion should be illegal because, there are many ways to prevent getting pregnant, abortion is just like murder. If you don't want children and don't want to take the risk of getting pregnant, don't have sex. Now, in the event of rape, obviously it was not your fault but its not the child's either, don't kill it. Have the baby, then give it up for adoption if your not ready to keep it. I don't think there is ever any reason for anyone to have an abortion. Everyone is made for a purpose, even that baby.
